Liberty Training

Crazy Horse Natural Horsemanship - Liberty Horse Training Services in Sammamish WA.

Creating natural human to horse connections.

Liberty is groundwork done with no physical attachments. It’s the truth about how connected the horse is with the human through the use of energy and pressure. Doing liberty is a good way of working with all types and ages of horses.

The horse can follow you, go around the arena while you’re in the middle, as well as many other exercises as you advance.

This will teach your horse confidence, respect, and attention. Liberty can be a way of bringing your horse exercise, and can even be done for physically limited horses to keep their mind’s healthy.

You will learn more in depth about how horses communicate amongst each other.

A natural group of exercises to train your horse.

Everything begins on the ground, from behavior-building to young horses and to old ones. The beauty of working on the ground is that everything the horse learns connects to riding, allowing them to learn riding work easier.

I teach the Pat Parelli ground games to make sure the horse can pivot their hindquarters and front-quarters, that they can back up without me having to move my feet, and that they are desensitized to objects and sounds.

Groundwork

I also teach Buck Brannaman groundwork to train the horse to stay with me and to keep their mind moving with their feet. I want the horse to be able to go anywhere with me automatically at whatever speed I choose while always staying at my shoulder with their neck/shoulder.

I have touches of Western and English training combined to train the horse to trust their surroundings, to have established the core basic skills, to stay entertained and exercised, and to be a respectful partner. I focus on working with the horse through their natural communications and use flags, carrot sticks, and others when necessary. Although, they are never intended as a tool for fear but rather as an extension of my arm to help me further direct the horse.

My goals are that your horse will be sensitive enough that no physical contact is necessary for them to do as asked. That you can improve your riding together through a strong foundation built on foot, and for those young and retired horses, that they can still remain fit and mentally healthy as well as given a purpose.

Riding

Gentle, natural riding techniques to train your horse.

One of the most common strategies of keeping horses in shape is riding. Just like on the ground, horses need to constantly be taught new things that will interest them and prevent them from becoming dull.

I work in both English and Western saddles, bridles with no bits, no spurs, and even bareback. I use patterns to help train in specific areas: barrel racing for nice circles, pole bending for responsiveness to legs, ground poles for lightness of the horse’s feet, and much more.

All exercises keep the horse and rider engaged whether it’s at a walk or canter.

I believe that horses and their riders should both be passionate about the work they are doing. I want to eventually see you riding on loose reins, fair and respectful with your aids with a flawless posture, and a soft, balanced horse.

I want you to be as connected emotionally as you are physically with your horse in a pure way.

Fun ways to keep your horse’s mind active.

Tricks are a unique way of grasping your horse’s attention. Even with a horse in work, doing the same types of riding or groundwork all the time can become mind-numbing. Teaching tricks will quickly get their ears to perk up and will have them willingly waiting for more.

Tricks can be simple: smile, beg, nod yes, shake no, kiss/hug, the list goes on. They can also be extended over a longer period of time (varies on individual horses) such as a bow, rear, lay down, fetching, etc.

Trick Training

Crazy Horse Natural Horsemanship - Trick Horse Training Services in Sammamish WA.

Some tricks are proven handy in day to day use, you can teach your horse to stay without being tied without you having to worry about them being unsupervised. You can teach them to stand still untied in general allowing you to groom or do anything without ever having to clip them to places.

To enhance your horse’s ability to learn quicker, I teach them basic clicker training. Once they understand how it works, you will be getting them to do tricks of all kinds in no time
